This kind lightning arresters are made for protecting medium voltage distribution lines and 63 KV transmission lines against direct lightning surge impact or surges happening in the vicinity of line.
Their shape is half circle for distribution lines and circle for 63 KV lines, for higher voltage levels is under evaluation and test now.
The base of working is discharging lightning energy via sparking out between chambers.
Therefore prevents appearing flashover on insulator surface and ground fault as well.
